Date/Time

The Date/Time Field combines date and time into a single field, making it perfect for capturing both elements together, such as for scheduling events, deadlines, or tracking time-sensitive activities.


Creating a Date/Time Field

There are two ways to create a new Date/Time Field in Buildaible:

Way 1: Adding Fields via Table Settings

  1. Access the Table Settings:
    On the table, click the down arrow next to the table name, then select “Table Settings” from the dropdown menu.

  2. Navigate to the Fields Tab:

    1. In the Table Settings screen, click the “Fields” tab.

    2. Click the “+ New Field(s)” button in the top right.

  3. Select Date/Time as the field type and configure the settings.

Way 2: Adding Fields via Manage Fields

  1. Open Field Management:

    1. On the table, click the “Manage Fields” button.

  2. Add a New Field:

    1. In the Manage Fields modal, click the “+ New Field” button.

  3. Choose Date/Time as the field type, provide a Field Name, and customize the settings.


Settings for Date/Time Fields

When creating or editing a Date/Time Field, you can configure the following options:

  • Show in Table Home: Enable this to display the field in the default Table Home view.

  • Field Required: Make the field mandatory for record creation.

  • Unique Value: Ensure that each record in the table has a unique date/time entry.

  • Default to Current Date/Time: Automatically populates the field with the current date and time when creating a new record.

  • Default Value (Optional): Specify a predefined date and time to appear automatically for new records.

  • Helper Text (Optional): Add a brief description or guidance to assist users in filling out the field.

  • Description (Optional): Provide additional context or details about the field’s purpose by clicking the + Description link.


Use Cases for Date/Time Fields

  • Event Scheduling: Capture both the date and time for meetings or events.

  • Deadlines and Reminders: Track due dates and times for tasks or projects.

  • Time-Stamped Entries: Log activities with precise date and time for auditing or tracking purposes.


Editing a Date/Time Field

To modify an existing Date/Time Field:

  1. Go to the Fields tab in your table settings.

  2. Select the Date/Time Field you wish to edit and adjust the settings as needed.


Best Practices

  • Use Default to Current Date/Time: Ideal for workflows involving real-time entries.

  • Leverage Helper Text: Provide clarity to users on how to use the field effectively.

  • Predefine Default Values: Save time by setting a common date and time as the default.
