Time Fields

The Time Field is ideal for capturing specific times, whether for appointments, time tracking, or other time-sensitive data. With customizable settings, this field ensures accurate and efficient time management in your applications.


Creating a Time Field

There are two ways to create a new Time Field in Buildaible:

Way 1: Adding Fields via Table Settings

  1. Access the Table Settings:
    On the table, click the down arrow next to the table name, then select “Table Settings” from the dropdown menu.

  2. Navigate to the Fields Tab:

    1. In the Table Settings screen, click the “Fields” tab.

    2. Click the “+ New Field(s)” button in the top right.

  3. Select Time as the field type and configure the settings.

Way 2: Adding Fields via Manage Fields

  1. Open Field Management:

    1. On the table, click the “Manage Fields” button.

  2. Add a New Field:

    1. In the Manage Fields modal, click the “+ New Field” button.

  3. Choose Time as the field type, provide a Field Name, and customize the settings.


Settings for Time Fields

When creating or editing a Time Field, you can adjust the following settings:

  • Show in Table Home: Display the field in the default Table Home view by toggling this option.

  • Field Required: Enable this option to make the field mandatory for record creation.

  • Unique Value: Ensure that no two records in the table share the same time value by activating this option.

  • Default to Current Time: Automatically sets the current time when creating a new record.

  • Default Value (Optional): Predefine a time value to appear automatically when creating a new record. This is useful for commonly repeated times.

  • Helper Text (Optional): Provide a brief description or instruction to guide users on how to use this field.

  • Description (Optional): Add additional details about the field’s purpose by clicking the + Description link.


Use Cases for Time Fields

  • Appointment Scheduling: Capture precise times for meetings or appointments.

  • Time Tracking: Record start and end times for tasks or activities.

  • Data Organization: Filter and sort records effectively based on time values.


Editing a Time Field

To edit an existing Time Field:

  1. Navigate to the Fields tab in your table settings.

  2. Select the Time Field you wish to modify and adjust the settings as necessary.


Best Practices

  • Enable Default to Current Time: This setting is helpful for workflows involving real-time data entry.

  • Use Helper Text for Clarity: Provide context or instructions to ensure proper usage of the field.

  • Predefine Default Times: Save users time by setting commonly used time values as defaults.
