URL

The URL Field allows you to store clickable links directly within your Buildaible tables. This field is ideal for referencing external resources such as websites, documents, or shared files.


Creating a URL Field

There are two ways to create a new URL Field in Buildaible:

Way 1: Adding Fields via Table Settings

  1. Access the Table Settings:
    On the table, click the down arrow next to the table name, then select “Table Settings” from the dropdown menu.

  2. Navigate to the Fields Tab:

    1. In the Table Settings screen, click the “Fields” tab.

    2. Click the “+ New Field(s)” button in the top right.

  3. Select URL as the field type and configure the settings.

Way 2: Adding Fields via Manage Fields

  1. Open Field Management:

    1. On the table, click the “Manage Fields” button.

  2. Add a New Field:

    1. In the Manage Fields modal, click the “+ New Field” button.

  3. Choose URL as the field type, provide a Field Name, and customize the settings.


Settings for URL Fields

When creating or editing a URL Field, you can configure the following options:

  • Show in Table Home: Display the URL Field in the Table Home view for quick reference.

  • Field Required: Ensure a URL is always entered when creating a new record.

  • Unique Value: Ensure that each record has a distinct URL.

  • Default Value: Pre-fill the field with a commonly used URL to save time during data entry.

  • Helper Text (Optional): Add additional guidance or instructions for users filling out the field.

  • Description (Optional): Provide further context or details about the field by clicking the + Description link.


Use Cases for URL Fields

  • Reference External Documents: Store links to project documents, manuals, or presentations.

  • Track Resources: Link to vendor websites, customer portals, or knowledge bases.

  • Collaborate Seamlessly: Store links to shared resources such as cloud storage or team collaboration platforms.


Editing a URL Field

To edit a URL Field:

  1. Go to the Fields tab in your table settings.

  2. Select the URL Field you wish to modify and adjust its settings as needed.


Best Practices

  • Use Helper Text for Consistency: Clearly indicate the type of URLs expected, such as “Enter the full URL starting with https://.”

  • Leverage Default Values: Pre-fill fields with commonly accessed links to save time.

  • Ensure Uniqueness When Needed: Use the Unique Value option for cases where URLs must not repeat, such as tracking unique resources.
