What is a Filter Preset?

About Filter Presets

In most systems, creating reports often involves adding specific filters to each individual report. This can result in multiple versions of similar reports, making it harder to manage and reuse data views. Buildaible simplifies this process with a unique feature called Filter Presets.

What are Filter Presets?

Filter Presets in Buildaible are reusable, table-level filters that you can create and apply across all reports related to a specific table. Instead of defining filters for every report, you define a Filter Preset once and use it as needed. This provides unmatched flexibility and efficiency when viewing and analyzing data.

How Do Filter Presets Work?

  1. Create Filter Presets on a Table:
    Each Filter Preset is associated with a specific table. You define the preset by setting criteria based on the fields in that table.

    For example:

    1. A preset for “Active Projects” could filter the table where {{Status}} = "Active".

    2. A preset for “High Priority Tasks” could filter the table where {{Priority}} = "High".

  2. Apply Presets to Reports:

    Once created, these presets can be applied to any report type for that table—whether it’s a table view, bar chart, pie chart, Kanban board, or calendar view. When you view a report, you can select or change the active Filter Preset, and the report will instantly update to reflect the data based on the selected preset.

Why Use Filter Presets?

  • Reduce Report Duplication:
    By separating filters from reports, you no longer need to create multiple versions of similar reports with different filters. Instead, you can use one report and apply various Filter Presets as needed.

  • Streamline Data Analysis:
    Filter Presets make it easy to toggle between different data views without needing to recreate or modify reports.

  • Consistency Across Report Types:
    Because Filter Presets are independent of report types, you can use the same preset across table views, visual charts, Kanban boards, and calendars.

  • Save Time:
    Create filters once, and use them across multiple reports instead of manually setting up filters for every new report.

Examples

Here are a few ways you might use Filter Presets:

  • For a Sales Table:

    • Preset 1: {{Close Date}} >= TODAY() to show upcoming deals.

    • Preset 2: {{Stage}} = "Closed Won" to display successful deals.

  • For a Tasks Table:

    • Preset 1: {{Due Date}} = TODAY() for today’s tasks.

    • Preset 2: {{Assigned To}} = "Me" for tasks assigned to the logged-in user.

  • For a Projects Table:

    • Preset 1: {{Status}} = "In Progress" to show active projects.

    • Preset 2: {{Budget}} > 10000 for high-budget projects.
